COVID-19 Mask Drives
The alarming rise in San Antonio Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations has spurred the BCMS Alliance to find ways to reach out to those most vulnerable.
Thanks to The Mitchell Chang Foundation and their incredible mask donations (11,000 to healthcare workers), we’ve found just the right opportunity: We are excited to partner with this amazing group, led by April Chang, to reach out and protect those SA communities most in need by providing masks to area families.
The 1st batch of 1,000 masks were distributed to the especially hard-hit 78207 zip code. Accompanying the masks are health education cards in English and Spanish with information on how to help stop the spread.
Our second drive, with the help of the the C.A. Whittier Medical Society delivered 200 hand-sewn washable masks from the The Mitchell Chang Foundation and 30 copies of a new children’s book about COVID, generously printed by OCD Print, to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, who has eagerly helped to distribute them to their community on the East Side.
The children's COVID-19 book was written by two frontline African-American, female physicians who are helping deal with a pandemic that has disproportionately affected African-American and Hispanic communities.
You can learn more and download your free digital copy of the children's book, "We're going to be ok," here: https://newsroom.uvahealth.com/…/uva-doctors-honored-for-c…/
The BCMS Alliance began in 1917 as a group of physician spouses sewing surgical gowns, rolling bandages and knitting mufflers for WWI soldiers. Our world has changed since then, but the need is still great.
Let’s join together to protect San Antonio’s vulnerable and continue our 100+ year legacy in positively impacting our community. #BexarCountyProud
